Giving the fact that music is mostly consumed and purchased in a digital non material format, what as a person that obviously gets the importance of aesthetics as a integral component of music's total presentation do you find compelling enough to purchase a real world copy. Records are a bit easy to understand as the art is full size, have an element of history/nostalgia, the listening experience is more active/collaborative,analog is a richer medium(debatable)and the album art itself has many possibilities as invisible birds has shown. Considering that its quite expensive to release a vinyl version how do you feel about other formats such compact disc, cassette or even vhs(not really)? What would make you be inclined to purchase one such as a fold out poster, interesting linear notes/booklet,hand produced or pressed packaging, ect.I have some releases that i plan to put out and am brainstorming on what would be an attractive object to others. Limited editions seems like one way to entice listeners.I'm just so in love with art related to and informing on the music that i hate the idea of its loss in this new listening environment.
Any perspective would be much appreciated as i value the judgment contained in this site.
Thank you,G.J.

hi GJ. i collect vinyl and cds. i have not bought vinyl though much the last year because of space and rising prices. have purchased some cds but sold more than i've purchased. same reason. lately i mostly listen to music in the subway so use itunes and recently spotify as i didn't feel like uploading cds to itunes and was kind of burnt out on my collection. as a label owner, sales have been quite disappointing for both formats for me but i think other vinyl only labels are doing great. it is kind of beyond my comprehension what is of interest to people and what isn't. kind of got sick of thinking about it. i figured if i continue i will put stuff out that i don't give a shite whether it sells or not so small quantities a must and handmade art. i think sellability is very important now a days. even if it is a brilliant way of selling something people basically have no interest in either through graphics or getting heavies behind yr project. there is a good amount of really amazing vinyl coming out of europe now, from looking at sites like soundohm and experimedia, sometimes boomkat. wish i could get more of them
